Aberdare progressed to the last 16 of the FAW Welsh Youth cup with a 3-1 victory over a strong Ynysgerwn side. Aber had a dream start and went in front on 4 minutes with a goal from Gabe Butts following good work by Louis Mullins. Aber   were   on   top   and   a   superb   strike   from   Brooke   Fraser   minutes   later   crashed   off   the   bar.   Brewer   up   front   for Ynysgerwn   was   looking   lively   but   the   centre   back   pairing   of   Tom   Jones   and   Josh   Evans   were   dealing   with   him   well.   Finn Watts was breaking forward at every opportunity as Aber looked for the 2nd. Aber were dealt an injury blow on the half hour mark when Cam Mchale was forced off following a robust challenge! It   was   Ynysgerwn   who   got   the   equaliser   on   32   minutes   following   a   quick   break,   Brewer   with   the   strike   to   give   keeper Dylan Pearce no chance. Brychan   Davies   was   doing   well   on   the   right   but   Aber   couldn’t   break   down   the   opposition   defence   with   Aaron   Rowling having a fantastic game in midfield. Ynysgwern   started   the   2nd   half   looking   lively   but Abers   defence   was   on   top   form   with   man   of   the   match Tom   Jones   a   rock at the back. Ynysgerwn did break through and keeper Pearce pulled off a great save to deny Johnson. Following   a   few   chances   for   Harri   Jones   it   was   sub   Shay   Welch   who   scored   a   fantastic   goal   from   40   yards   out   that   gave keeper Henry no chance to make it 2-1. The game was really livening up with some tasty challenges and a few bookings!  Aber   had   a   chance   to   seal   it   with   5   minutes   left   when   Jones   hit   the   post   following   good   work   from   Jenson   Price,   Steff David then had a shot blocked as did Mullins. Ynysgerwn    pushed    everyone    forward    in    search    of    an    equaliser    to    take    the    game    to    penalties    and    Rowling    took advantage of it with a calmly slotted goal in injury time to seal the win. We now face Garw SGBC in the last sixteen with a place in the quarter finals for the winner
