Aberdare Town are delighted to welcome Garry Jones to the Club as the manager of our newly formed Aberdare Valley Football League side. In a bid to provide more adult senior game time within the Club we have applied (subject to confirmation at the Annual General Meeting of the league) to join the AVFL for the new season. Our matches will be played at Aberaman Park and will be a key part of the continuing development of our own young players which is evidently needed now that the FAW have ratified the ‘One Club’ rule from this season which means nobody can dual register with a second club - a rule that was used last season for several of our youth team players to be able to play both senior and youth football for different Clubs. Upon his appointment the new manager, Garry said: “With the one Club rule I am looking to provide the young players already at the Club the opportunity to compete in adult football on a Saturday in the hope they will make the transition to the first team and its a role I am really looking forward to with Aberdare really focussing on home grown players for the future”. Garry is an FAW C Certificate holder and a Level One talent identification qualification. He has 30 years playing experience locally with spells at Mountain Ash Athletic, Cwmbach Royal Stars, Penywaun and Hirwaun while coaching a team with AFC Llwydcoed from mini’s through the under 16s. Garry is going to be assisted by Paul Rowlands. The creation of a new team was welcomed by our mens first team manager Ryan Betteney who said: “It’s great to see the Club growing again. We have been impressed by the quality and commitment from the youth players since we arrived. If we can develop the majority, if not all, of the current crop of our youngsters with Saturday football it will stand us, as a Club, in good stead going forward” We are currently looking for sponsors for a new kit for our new team, if you can help please get in touch with us by emailing commercial@aberdaretownfc.co.uk - there are options for a sponsor on the front, back, shorts and sleeve. We welcome Garry and Paul to the Club and look forward to an exciting future.
