A beautiful afternoon saw a 100 plus attendance to witness an important fixture between sides hoping to avoid relegation. Aber were looking for revenge after an early season 1-5 defeat at Llanrumney but had to settle for a 1-1 draw. The enthusiastic Under 7's acted as mascots for a home side which saw the welcome return of 'keeper Dan Field, Oscar Din, Callum Tandy, Alex Jacklin and a start for Under 16's winger Ellis Lewis. Aberdare attacked the Town end against a side who had not won an away league game all season. The third minute saw a Jack Salmon central free kick tipped over by the visitors No.1 for a corner which was cleared, Llanrumney's immediate left side corner also dealt with. The ninth minute saw the hosts go 1 up as a left side free kick was met by Salmon, his effort parried by the away custodian only for Matt Owen to rifle home. A long Field free kick on 19 minutes was repelled and the 27th minute saw an Elliott Hewings right side corner headed by Victor Angaye but cleared off the line. The 33rd minute of a feisty encounter saw the visitors awarded a contentious penalty which was converted for the leveler. Angaye was unable to continue and replaced by Jack Williams while an away free kick was headed against the post while, right on half-time Player of the Match Field made an excellent save when diving to his right and tipped the ball round the post. Llanrumney had the first chance of the second half but headed wide. Manager Kellan Webb introduced his substitutes but the visitors had the majority of the attacks, one on the hour being well dealt with by the home back-line and a 67th minute away effort blazed over. Aberdare's best chance on the three-quarter hour mark saw a close range Williams attempt repelled. No further alarms for either side as the 1-1 result did not help either team in their battle to beat the drop into local league football. With Aberdare in a precarious position the final fixture sees a visit to Tongwynlais on Saturday 2nd May at 2.30. Team: Dan Field, Callum Tandy (Jackson Barker), Elliot Hewings, Floran Disco, Alex Jacklin, Oscar Din, Matt Owen (Lucas Lohuis), Southern Rowlands (Jacob Blake), Victor Angaye (Jack Williams), Jack Salmon, Ellis Lewis Sub not use: Fin Williams Player of the Match: Dan Field
