Match report by Ian Pearce Another game and a familiar outcome for Aber in their latest outing with one key moment having a major say in the outcome of the game. Missing Kieran Davies through work commitments Levi Jones moved back into the back line with Daniel Riddiford taking his place. The visitors were quick off the block and after Rory Petty Johns had a goal chalked off for offside, Luke Cleaves got forward on the the left but he shot straight at Callum Dunning. After   9   minutes   Elliott   Ford   played   in   Craig   Lewis   after Aberdare   had   lost   the   ball   in   midfield   and   with   a   great   chance   to   open   the   scoring   as   he   gets   in   on   the   right   edge   of   the   area   he managed to get his shot away off balanced and hits it again straight at Dunning. 2   minutes   later   and   an   unmarked   header   from   Daniel   Spence   goes   over   the   bar   after   a   free   kick   was   delivered   into   the   box   by   Luke   Williams   and   Monmouth   continued   to   push forward   searching   for   an   opening. After   quarter   of   an   hour   a   neat   ball   through   the Aberdare   defence   was   pulled   back   and   flicked   goalward   by   Lewis   which   Dunning   does   superbly   to block and the loose ball is struck by Lewis Davies but Simon Morgan does brilliantly to get back and clear off the line. Another defensive error by Aberdare gifted Williams a chance but Dunning is equal to it again and gets down to save. It   had   been   a   difficult   opening   period   for Aber   but   they   were   holding   on   and   started   to   play   their   way   into   the   game   with   some   neat   football   when   the   opportunity   presented   itself.      In fact   the   first   real   chance   of   the   game   for   the   team   should   have   seen   them   take   the   lead   as   Drew   Langdon   does   well   to   hold   the   ball   up   and   managed   to   set   Riddiford   free   on   the   left who   gets   himself   into   the   box   and   squares   it   to   Cory   Thomas   who   only   has   to   get   a   good   contact   on   the   ball   but   the   ball   bounces   off   his   knee   and   wide   of   the   target   with   the goalkeeper beaten. Cleaves   again   goes   close   for   Monmouth   and   should   have   done   better   with   his   effort   and   on   36   minutes Aberdares Thomas   cleverly   sets   up   Jones   whose   25   yard   effort   seems   to   have beaten keeper Scott James but he manages to readjust and tip the ball over the bar. Right   on   the   stroke   of   half   time   the   decisive   moment   of   the   game   arrived   as   a   short   back   pass   from   Simon   Morgan   leaves   Dunning   exposed   and   he   raced   out   of   his   area   to   challenge Ashley   Ford   and   as   both   players   lunged   in   for   the   ball   the   Monmouth   player   came   out   the   worst   of   the   two   and   to   the   amazement   of   the Aberdare   contingent   Dunning   was   shown   a red   card!      Scott   Griffiths   donned   the   gloves   for   the   remaining   minute   of   the   half   and   from   the   resulting   freekick   Elliott   Ford   found   the   back   of   the   net   to   send   his   side   in   ahead   at   the break. Half Time: Aberdare Town 0-1 Monmouth Town It   was   a   bitter   blow   for   Aberdare   and   at   half   time   young   keeper   James   Ofomah-Parry   came   on   in   place   of   Andrew   Price   but   within   2   minutes   of   the   restart   Monmouth   had   doubled their lead as a freekick from their left touchline by Ford was headed home by Petty-Jones. On 63 minutes a great through ball from Liam Fawcett found Thomas who was clear on goal but James was off his line well to block to deny a way back into the game for the hosts. A   long   clearance   by   James   saw   Ford   through   on   70   minutes   but   he   was   denied   by   a   great   last   ditch   tackle   from   Aaron   Moreton   before   Simon   Jones   made   a   double   change   for   the hosts as Brad Lewis and Rhys Thomas replaced Langdon and Morgan. Monmouth   wrapped   up   the   game   on   85   minutes   as   a   defence   splitting   through   ball   saw   substitute   Sam   Oxley   beat   Ofomah-Parry   and   2   minutes   later   a   deep   freekick   is   easily controlled by Ford who taps it back to Oxley for a simple goal to complete the scoring with his second goal of the afternoon. Aberdare’s   afternoon   was   complete   with   assistant   manager   Terry   Fitzpatrick   being   sent   to   the   stand   and   with   half   the   season   now   complete   it   leaves   boss   Jones   with   plenty   to   think about as the team continue to search for their first win of the season.
