Match report by Ian Pearce After   the   positiveness   of   the   previous   two   matches   against   promotion   chasing   Monmouth   and   then   the   demolition   of   struggling   West   End, Aberdare   came   back   down   to a bump once again with a disappointing performance at STM Sports. With   a   perfect   surface   due   to   it   being   a   3G   pitch   the   game   was   a   tough   spectacle   for   the   supporters   with   a   howling   wind   that   made   for   unpleasant   viewing   while   the   hosts   capitalised on the conditions with some patient and well worked passing moves. In   the   opening   20   minutes   the   hosts   had   the   larger   share   of   possession   but   failed   to   really   trouble   the Aberdare   team   who   looked   compact   and   were   closing   down   well   although   in   the first quarter of the match Callum Dunning made a good save tipping over the bar and Daniel Riddiford headed off the line from a dangerous corner. The   opening   goal   arrived   on   22   minutes   as   a   freekick   was   awarded   in   the   STM   half,   the   ball   was   knocked   back   to   a   defender   who   launched   a   ball   over   the   top   of   Riddiford   using   the wind to full effect and the striker raced through on goal to give Dunning no chance. Within 60 seconds it could have been two as a quick break saw the STM forward put the ball wide from close range. The   hosts   looked   far   from   composed   when Aberdare   attacked   and   Craig   Williams   had   a   great   chance   to   level   things   as   he   was   put   through   by   Brad   Lewis   but   his   shot   from   distance, with the keeper advancing, flew high over the bar and the high pitch fencing. Lamin   Contah   was   the   next   to   go   close   for   STM   but   his   powerful   shot   cannoned   off   the   angle   of   post   and   bar   but   the   second   goal   eventually   did   arrive   on   32   minutes   as   a   quality   ball down the left wing saw a cross come over and a simple tap in so the lead extended. Dunning   made   a   stunning   save   at   full   stretch   as Aberdare   tried   to   hang   on   and   weather   the   storm   as   the   hosts   hit   the   post   again   and   over   playing   when   in   attack   meant   they   missed what should have been an easy 2 on 1 break. Aberdare   were   given   a   life-line   on   44   minutes   as   a   long   clearance   by   Dunning   wasn’t   dealt   with   by   the   home   defence   and   Cory   Thomas   beat   the   defender   and   the   keeper   to   the   ball and pushed it past them and rolled it into the empty net. Aber were back in the game as the half-time whistle went and hopes were high that with the wind in their favour in the second half they could get something out of the game. Half Time: STM Sports 2-1 Aberdare Town Those   hopes   were   dashed   in   the   second   half   with   a   disappointing   performance   as   STM   looked   to   step   up   their   game   and   a   corner   after   49   minutes   wasn’t   cleared   and   the   loose   ball was blocked on the line and the rebound was weakly headed and Dunning gratefully clutched the ball. A   shot   from   the   edge   of   the   area   only   troubled   the   corner   flag   from   the   hosts   and   on   58   minutes   the   third   goal   arrived   as   Contah   put   in   a   low   cross   from   the   left   and   with   striker   on   the penalty spot controlled and had all the time in the world to pick his spot and find the bottom corner. Thomas almost got himself on the scoresheet again as he charged down the keeper but the loose ball agonizingly rolled wide of the post. The scare only spurred STM on and they added a fourth on 63 minutes as a simple ball through the defence saw the striker complete a hat-trick. Aberdare   were   falling   apart   as   within   2   minutes   it   was   five   as   the   hosts   walked   in   another   once   with   time   and   space   and   on   67   minutes   it   was   six   with   another   soft   goal   to   make   it   four goals in ten poor minutes. The match had turned into a training game of attack against defence and STM would have been further ahead but for over playing and some wayward shooting and crossing. The   seventh   arrived   on   73   minutes   and   the   final   goal   on   83   minutes   to   compound   a   miserable   trip   to   the   capital   and   a   performance   that   fell   apart   in   the   second   half   conceding   six times and it was only because of the hosts that it wasn’t even more embarrasing for Aber who now face Caerau (Ely) in their next game who are also looking for a promotion place.
