Match report by Ray Pearce Picture by Beth Kelly The hosts were hoping for a double after an early away win this season. A rainy afternoon saw Aber attacking the Town end but conceded a goal inside 6 minutes as an away foray was not dealt with and a Merthyr player slotted in for the lead. A high line from the hosts saw their guests quick to take advantage. The 20th minute saw an away effort from the left flicked onto the crossbar, just 60 seconds later a Leon Jacka through ball enabled Dan Collins to fire home the equalizer. Within two minutes Aber were in front when Will Eastwood, making his first start for a long time, rolled in from the left side of the area. Sadly, a rash foul on 37 minutes saw Alex Adshead given a straight red card to leave Aber down to 10 men for almost an hour. Merthyr were unable to get on level terms as Aber enjoyed their half-time lead. A tactical substitution saw Sam Weaver replace Evan Olson for the second half and he did well to block an away attempt on 50 minutes. Eastwood ran onto a Jacka pass on 59 minutes to get to the ball before the Merthyr 'keeper, his shot trickling through the muddy goalmouth to cross the goal-line to give the hosts a 3-1 advantage. As the rain intensified, Aberdare found the conditions not conducive to their normal style, Merthyr clawing back to 2-3 on 65 minutes with an easy finish. 7 minutes later and it was all square as a free header from a corner gave Dan Field no chance. The three-quarter hour mark saw a 25 yard Merthyr drive superbly clawed away by Field diving to his right. Cameron McHale, substituted for Eastwood on 80 minutes, almost got the winner, with the Merthyr No. 1 just diverted the ball away over the bar. 16 year old Logan Thomas was introduced for his debut, after some spectacular recent performances, late on to replace Josh Davies but it ended at 3-3 in difficult conditions. Aber's 10 men holding out for a second consecutive draw. Vale United are the visitors on Saturday 24th February with a 2.30 start.
