Match report by Ray Pearce Picture by Ian Pearce The last home game of the season saw Aberdare hoping to cheer their followers with a double against a side fighting to avoid relegation. Dan Field was back in goal while Kellan Webb also started with Owen Jones also missing through injury. A breezy but thankfully dry afternoon saw Aber attacking the Town end but Sully's raid down their right saw a fifth minute attempt miss the far post. The hosts' high line saw their visitors caught offside more than once but a long throw from the away side on 18 minutes was flicked on just past the upright. Field had already been closed down and was a bit fortunate to gain a resulting free kick from the incident. A Sully corner saw an effort blocked with the rebound over the bar. Aber's early free kicks and passes forward were overhit but a great move down their right on 28 minutes saw a cross converted from close range by Shay Welch. A Leon Jacka left side corner was just tipped away by the away 'keeper, the guests still looking dangerous, the 44th minute saw an equalizer with a shot knocked home. The second 45 saw Aberdare's turn to be ruled offside, a Sully attack on 62 minutes was thwarted by Brychan Davies when they were clean through. Just 2 minutes later the away team were 2-1 up as a ferocious drive from 25 yards hit the net. An immediate response saw an Evan Olson curler palmed away for an uneventful corner. Into the last 10 minutes and a Jacka corner from Aber's left saw substitute Josh Davies head home at the far post for 2-2 despite Sully protestations of handball. There was immense joy for those supporting the home team as, on 87 minutes, fellow substitute Nicky Rees latched on to a Dan Collins pass, dribbled round defenders and 'keeper to net for 3-2 and his first goal for Aber. It was almost heartbreak for the home side as a Sully player seemed certain to score on 88 minutes but his attempt rolled wide. Another away attack in the 7 minutes of added time was scrambled away as the final whistle blew. Obvious despair for the visitors but a happy end to the home season for Aberdare in getting back to winning ways.
