Match report by Ray Pearce Picture by Beth Kelly After the fundraising walk by the Club's Under 14,15 and 16 boys pre-match, a noisy crowd greeted the sides on a pleasant afternoon Aberdare enjoyed an early success attacking the Town end when, on 3 minutes, Leon Jacka sent Evan Olson through to calmly shoot past the oncoming 'keeper. Jacka's left side corner was knocked clear by Treforest's No.1 while Olson was unlucky to see an excellent 25 yard effort hit the bar. The visitors came close with one header onto the roof of the net and another, on 36 minutes, which went over. The previous season had seen a 1-1 draw at Aberaman Park. Treforest started the second half with more purpose and, after a home defensive error, Callum Dunning was quickly out to thwart an opponent who was in on goal. Another chance for the away side saw a shot past Aber's left post, Jacka and Dan Collins then shooting over. The hosts were now living dangerously, 74 minutes saw a long drive from the visitors rebound from Dunning’s knee with the rebound again fired over the top of the goal. An away attacker also put one over from inside the 6 yard box and it seemed that a goal had to come. Indeed it did, but it came from Jacka on 83 minutes as his low free kick from 25 yards arrowed into the far corner for a much appreciated 2-0 advantage. A grateful exhale of breath as Aberdare saw out the remaining period, almost 10 minutes of added time, for a tough 3 points. TEAM: Callum Dunning, Jordan Jones, Brychan Davies, Owen Jones, Alex Adshead, Aaron Rowling (Jack Bethell ‘61), Leon Jacka (Sam Weston-Sheppard ‘92), Josh Davies, Shay Welch (Sam Weaver ‘87), Dan Collins, Evan Olson (Cam McHale ‘75) Sub not used: Dylan Pearce
