Match report by Ray Pearce Picture by Beth Kelly The large Aberdare following turned up on a drizzly afternoon, hoping their side could continue from the previous week's win over the league leaders. Without the suspended Alex Adshead and the non-availability of Shay Welch and Dan Collins, Aber fielded a particularly young squad with young Logan Thomas making his first senior start after an impressive season with the Under 16s. The pitch did not suit their usual style of neat play but both sides attacked in turn with no end product. Dylan Pearce thwarting an onrushing home player before a nasty injury on the half-hour to Brychan Davies saw him substituted by Corey Hansford, another young talent from the under 16s squad. Right on half-time a home break on the right saw Pearce rush to intercept but a lob evaded everyone for a 1- 0 lead for the hosts. Aber were kept at arm's length, the home side winning headers and preventing any meaningful forward momentum. They were content to hit their visitors on the break, Pearce making some good stops. The away following were happy on 67 minutes when an attack was not cleared by the home defence and Thomas, who has been prolific for the under 16's, rolled in the equaliser. A couple of Aber attempts were just cleared but, on the 75th minute a home solo break saw Vale go 2-1 up with a shot to the far corner. A home miss from a couple of yards kept Aber's hopes alive, the last minute of normal time seeing an impressive home midfielder lob from 25 yards to clinch the 3-1 score-line. Obviously a disappointing afternoon for the extremely young Aber side who could not match their opponents way of playing in the difficult conditions.
