Match report by Ray Pearce Picture by Beth Kelly A fine afternoon greeted the visitors AFC Wattstown who had been involved in 25 goals in their first 3 league games. Sam Weaver and Brychan Davies returned to the starting line-up after missing last weeks defeat at Ton Pentre while Dylan Pearce started in goal with Callum Dunning unavailable. Attacking the town end, Aberdare took an early 10 minute lead after the visitors had gone close. A fine run and cross from Evan Olson from the right hand side saw a diving header from Josh Davies to give Aber the lead. Connor Berry saw a close range header hit the side netting, while Certrus Construction Player of the Match Pearce saved at the foot of his post from a Wattstown free kick. The newly promoted guests played a high line with Aber trying to break quickly, the away 'keeper rapidly off his line to clear any through balls. 28 minutes saw an away run down the visitors left with a Caple effort driven across goal and inside the far post. for 1-1. 10 minutes later a missed tackle on Aber's left saw a run through and finish inside the far post giving the away side a 2-1 lead at the break. Manager Ryan Betteney had some work to do at the interval to raise Aber's game. Wattstown thought they had headed a third right on half-time but it was disallowed for offside but Aber started the second half with more purpose, a terrific Leon Jacka free kick from 30 ps yards on the left touchline hitting the far post and nestling in the net for the equaliser. On the hour, Olson ran through the middle and, after winning a tackle with the away No.1, rolled the ball home for a 3-2 Aber advantage. Barely 2 minutes later the visitors failed to clear properly and substitute Shay Welch slotted home. Wattstown refused to give up and a 67th minute effort was tipped round the post by Pearce. Within 2 more minutes he again did well to thwart the away side and, with a quarter of an hour left he denied a visiting forward when clean through after a home slip in midfield. However, 82 minutes saw Aber close down the away defence and another substitute in Cameron McHale set up Jacka to slot home for 5-2. An entertaining game saw the visitors shoot just past Pearce's left hand upright, he again stopped an effort as the referee brought proceedings to a close to the delights of the home fans and squad. TEAM: Dylan Pearce, Jordan Jones (Kellan Webb ‘90), Brychan Davies, Sam Weaver, Owen Jones, Aaron Rowling (Morgan Rowling ‘86), Leon Jacka (Harri Jones ‘87), Josh Davies (Shay Welch ‘52), Connor Berry, Dan Collins, Evan Olson (Cameron McHale ‘80)
