Report by: Ray Pearce Photo by: Beth Kelly Photography After the previous week's loss, Aberdare travelled to take on the league leaders Afan United at the home ground of Afan Lido. Jordan Jones, Josh Davies and Logan Thomas were in the starting eleven with Connor Berry and Alex Adshead unavailable. On a dry but blustery afternoon Aber took a seventh minute lead when Aaron Rowling found Luke Boyle to send a real screamer over the home 'keeper from 35 yards. The hosts started to put some moves together down their left and 23 minutes saw the Aberdare defence not clearing to allow an easy equalizer. 29 minutes had Afan seeming certain to score but brave Aber defending thwarted them, an attempt also hitting the crossbar. 2 minutes later saw another home effort well saved by Dylan Pearce. The second half saw Aber playing against the strong wind, 50 minutes saw Pearce and his defence repel another attempt from the hosts while Jacka hit the post for the away side on 53 minutes. Afan thought they had taken the lead after 65 minutes but the header was disallowed for offside. Various substitutes came from both sides as the outcome was in the balance. The considerable AberArmy were in full voice on 80 minutes as Jacka was played in to shoot into the far corner for 2-1. Obviously the hosts were now throwing everything into their attacks but the Aber side defended magnificently to the extent that Pearce was not unduly troubled. After a game interspersed by numerous yellow cards, the last minute of normal time saw 2 home players seeing red for second yellows. A break saw Boyle rattle the home crossbar in the amazing 12 minutes of added time. Finally the whistle went to end an excellent performance from Aberdare, much appreciated by their contingent which will hopefully spur the squad onto continued success.
