After
the
exit
of
several
Aberdare
players,
Manager
Dean
Raven
had
recruited
a
new
contingent with 7 in the starting line up to take on the runaway league leaders.
Aber
had
won
the
corresponding
fixture
earlier
in
the
season
and,
attacking
the
Town
end,
started
brightly
with
Philip Thomas and Luke Boyle having early opportunities thwarted.
Kellan Webb had a 20th minute run with the final attempt over the bar.
After
another
flicked
header
went
wide
for
the
home
side,
it
was
the
visitors
who
took
the
lead
on
28
minutes
when a clearance by the Aber defence was rifled home by an Afan player.
Right
on
half
time
a
home
corner
was
wasted
allowing
Afan
to
break
away
and,
as
new
'keeper
Brandon
Edmunds dived to thwart the opposing forward he sustained a nasty leg injury as both men went for the ball.
With
Edmunds
needing
hospital
treatment,
Kellan
Webb
took
over
the
No.
1
jersey
with
Cam
Sage
coming
on
as substitute.
The
guests
ramped
up
the
pressure
with
an
error
seeing
Afan
in
for
an
easy
finish.
This
was
on
58
minutes
and
a third followed on the hour for a comfortable 3-0.
Webb
made
some
good
stops
as
the
potential
champions
attacked
at
will,
their
fourth
arriving
on
73
minutes
with a diving header from close range.
No further scoring as Aberdare's efforts could not produce a goal for the first time in the league this season.
Obviously
a
difficult
first
game
for
the
new
look
side
and
it
continues
to
be
tough
with
an
away
fixture
at
Clwb
Cymric on Saturday 25th January at 2.00.p.m.
