This
Hugh
James
SWFA
Cup
tie
saw
Premier
Division
Caerphilly
visit
on
a
mercifully dry afternoon.
Aber
attacked
the
Town
end
but
were
soon
behind
as
the
ball
was
given
away.
The
returning
Dylan
Pearce
in
goal
blocked
the
first
shot
only
for
the
rebound
to
be
netted.
It
got
worse
as
an
away
attack
down
the
right
saw
a
cross to the far post rifled home.
On
6
minutes
Aber
must
have
feared
a
devastating
afternoon
as
a
quick
run
down
the
left
saw
the
away
forward
evade
Pearce
to
make
it
3-0.
The
16th
minute
saw a Caerphilly left side corner headed home for 4-0.
Incisive
attacks
by
the
Premier
side
threatened
their
hosts
but
on
32
minutes
a
Leon
Jacka
free
kick
from
the
left
sliced
off
a
visitor
and
looped
over
their
'keeper
for
1-4.
However,
36
minutes
saw
a
ball
lost
and
the
effort was rifled home for 5-1.

“Where toil the Cymry deep in sunless pits and
emptying all their hills to warm the world”
2
minutes
before
the
break
Aber's
Connor
Berry
was
fouled
in
the
penalty
area,
Jacka
making
it
2-5
from
the
spot.
Right
on
half-time
Jay
Smith's
drive
was
saved
to
preserve the guests 3 goal cushion.
Aberdare
needed
to
show
more
resilience
in
the
second
45
and
Luke
Boyle,
back
in
the
side
after
a
break, was thwarted by the away No.1.
The
game
now
became
more
end
to
end,
Caerphilly
shooting
over
from
close
range
before
a
25
yard
Jacka
free kick was tipped over.
The
54th
minute
saw
a
handball
in
the
visitors
box,
Jacka again slotting home the penalty for 3-5.
Immediately
Boyle
had
a
chance
to
get
Aber
within
1
goal
but
the
away
custodian
went
to
ground
to
save
near his post.
The
home
defence
were
quick
to
block
their
guests
attempts to wrap up the game.
A
50
yard
Jacka
free
kick
from
Aber's
left
touchline
saw
the
effort
tipped
over
before
an
injury
time
header
from
Caerphilly went wide.
Full
credit
to
Aberdare
for
a
rejuvenated
second
half
after
such
a
disappointing
first
45.
It
was
the
proverbial
game
of
two
different
halves
but
the
main
damage
had
already been done.
