Report by: Ray Pearce Photo by: Beth Kelly Photography Aberdare's first away league game of the season saw a return to Cardiff Bay after the thrilling early season 4-3 cup win. A breezy afternoon on the 3G pitch saw Aber have two chances within the first 6 minutes, the first saved by the home 'keeper and Aaron Rowling having an attempt wide of the far post. The home side gradually worked their way into attacking mode and 16 minutes saw a move down their left result in a drive well tipped behind by Dylan Pearce. At this stage Aber looked dangerous on the counter, Leon Jacka having a 21st minute effort which came to nothing and on 35 minutes his left side free kick found the head of Luke Boyle, his flicked header bringing a fine tip over from Cardiff's No.1. A good run from Jay Smith down the right was thwarted for a fruitless corner. Right on half-time a ball deflected off an Aberdare boot to leave the hosts with an easy tap-in for a 1-0 lead. An early second half drive by Jacka was well saved before Aber got the equalizer on 54 minutes as Jacka sent Smith away down the right and his fine cross saw Boyle first to the ball and slot home. Pearce was obviously struggling with an injury in the Aber goal but could do nothing on the hour as a 20 yard shot from Cardiff hit the roof of the net for 2-1. Sadly the 72nd minute saw Smith sent off for two yellow cards, 5 minutes later a home move down their left resulted in an easy finish. The visitors made substitutions but an 84th minute run down the Cardiff right crossed to the far post for a fourth goal. Aber tried to mount attacks, Boyle coming close in the last minute, before they were again hit on the break for a devastating 5-1 defeat. Obviously a disappointing result for all concerned with Aberdare and next Saturday (12th October) sees another difficult game away at league leaders Afan United with a 2.30 start.
