Report by: Ray Pearce Photo by: Beth Kelly Photography After a difficult week for all concerned with Aberdare and the departure of Manager Ryan Betteney the reins were taken by James Rowlands and Dan Field. Connor Berry returned to the side while Ashton Francis-Carrington was on holiday and Jay Smith had made a move to Ton Pentre to follow his uncle. A bright afternoon saw Aber taking on a Cardiff Cosmopolitan side who had made a fair start to their season so a tough game was in store. Attacking the Town end, Aber came close in the second minute when Leon Jacka received from Sam Weaver to set up a Kellan Webb effort that rebounded from the crossbar. 6 minutes saw an away run down the right, Aberdare's pleas for offside were rejected, Dylan Pearce saving the subsequent effort. Berry's attempt was parried by Cardiff's 'keeper while an away error in defence was not taken advantage of. 20 minutes saw a through ball from the away side, Pearce raced from his line but the Cardiff forward won the block to finish well. Another 4 minutes saw Aber's back line exposed down their left and a cross provided a comfortable shot for 2- 0. It got worse on the half-hour as another pass over the top saw Pearce come for the ball but was beaten for a 3- 0 lead. The Cardiff No.1 had to be substituted before the hosts clawed one back on 37 minutes as a Jacka free kick from the right found Berry who set up Luke Boyle for a neat finish. Right on half time Pearce made an excellent save when tipping over a good strike. Sam Weaver was unable to start the second 45 through a knee injury and was replaced by the returning Alex Adshead. Cardiff continued with their neat build up to create chances, a 50th minute effort deflecting straight to Pearce. Home substitutions made little change to the run of play, Berry coming close on 73 minutes with a left wing effort that came back off the far post. A Jacka free kick was blocked by the resilient visitors, further away forays being resisted by Pearce and his defence. Unfortunately, substitute Southern Rowlands was dismissed for 2 yellow cards as Aber did not really test the replacement 'keeper. After the previous week's victory it was defeat to a team that deserved their win.
