Report by: Ray Pearce Photo by: Beth Kelly Photography Aberdare and their faithful following travelled to the busy Cardiff University complex to take on Llanrumney United on a 3G pitch. Thankfully, it was a glorious February afternoon as the visitors attempted to do the double over their hosts having won 3-1 at the Easy Panels Stadium earlier in the season. Brandon Edmunds returned in goal with starts for Iestyn Thomas and Logan Miles. A third minute Thomas free kick from halfway was cleared for a left side corner and the ball into the 6 yard box was scrambled off the line by the home side. A 5th minute free kick from Player of the Match Ashton Francis-Carrington, one of many candidates for the distinction, saw Cam Sage set up Luke Boyle for an attempt which went close. Within 60 seconds Llanrumney had an effort off the visitors crossbar. The hosts put a 13th minute effort wide of the far post but on 16 a right side cross was headed in at the far post for 1-0 to the home side. Francis- Carrington and his defence dealt with some more home attacks but, on the half-hour, were denied an offside call as Edmunds tipped an effort for a fruitless corner. All associated with Aber were happy on 35 minutes as a Thomas corner from their left curled into the net despite the attempt of the home 'keeper to keep it out. No further alarms as the sides were level at the break. Aber enjoyed some neat passing moves early in the second half but were under pressure 3 times between 52 and 56 minutes but thwarted Llanrumney attacks. Edmunds continued to handle well in the away goal, Manager Dean Raven and Southern Rowlands substituting for Logan Miles and Rhys Lewis. Both sides were often adjudged offside by the excellent referee and it took another stop by Edmunds in the 88th minute to thwart the hosts. After a minimum 4 minutes the enjoyable game ended at 1-1. Obviously this did not help either side in their league struggle but the Aberdare commitment throughout the match was pleasing for the loyal supporters and management.
