Report by: Ray Pearce Photos by: Beth Kelly Photography A pleasant afternoon greeted two sides still looking for their first league win. Changes to Aber's starting line up saw a debut for defender Ashton Francis-Carrington in a re-jigged back line with Sam Weaver also joining him along with Liam Miles and Cameran Sage. There was also a welcome return by Aaron Rowling after missing the last couple of games. Aber were soon attacking towards the Town end and on 10 minutes Leon Jacka hit the Merthyr post with Sage latching on to the rebound and finding Luke Boyle who turned and scored with a low effort. The quarter-hour saw Sage with deft footwork but his attempt went wide of the far post. 20 minutes saw Jacka down the left and setting up Boyle for a controlled finish and 2-0. Within another 3 minutes Jay Smith put in a fine ball from the right for Boyle to net his hat-trick.

Aberdare Town 7 Merthyr Saints 1
The away side threatened on 25 minutes with a free-kick from former Aberdare defender Lee Hartshorn well saved by Dylan Pearce at his right post. Aber were soon on the front foot as Player of the Match Boyle lobbed just over before Connor Berry sent him in for a fourth on 40 minutes. Just before the break the visitors pulled one back despite the home protestations for offside No complacency was needed in the second 45 and within 2 minutes Smith had a good run down the right and crossed for Berry to net from close range. Jacka then sent Smith in for an effort which went over before home substitutes saw continued attacks. A Jacka free-kick on 70 minutes was well saved by the Merthyr No.1 before a Jacka right side corner saw Logan Thomas net with the help of a deflection. The guests mounted some attacking attempts which were dealt with by Pearce and his defence before a Jacka perfect through ball saw Smith race through to strike home for 7-1 after 76 minutes. So that was how it ended with a welcome 3 points before two tough away fixtures over the next 2 Saturdays.
