Aberdare Town are delighted to announce that a familiar name will be returning to football in the Valley as we have renamed our mini section as Aberdare Town Grasshoppers. Grasshoppers was well known in football circles for many years and was the foundation stone of the Clubs football provision when they merged with ATFC. From the 2025/26 season the mini section (aged 6-11) which plays in the Aberdare Valley Football League will be under the name of Aberdare Town Grasshoppers. This will mean that the structure will now be: Kickers from ages of 12 months to 5 years old which is held on a Saturday and Sunday morning Grasshoppers - which will go from the age of Under 6 through to Under 11 Juniors - competitive teams from Under 12’s to Under 16’s competing in the South Wales Women’s and Girls Football League and the Cynon Rhondda Merthyr Junior Football League. We think this is a great way of bringing an important part of our past back into the present day and showing everybody a clear pathway from Kickers through to adult football.
