Title challengers Pentyrch ran out 1-5 winners at the Easy Panels Stadium in a
tough afternoon for Kellan Webb’s men.
With 3 Aber regulars having left during the week the game saw Joe White make his debut in defence
with starts for Jackson Barker and Jacob Blake.
After the sides had played out an entertaining 2-2 match earlier in the season, Aber attacked the
Town end and a 4th minute free kick from their right was headed away with the visitors countering
with an effort that Lewis Reed parried.
On 11 minutes the visitors went 1 up when easily running through the home back-line to slot home.
A Mason Howells cross from the right had already just avoided Cai McKenzie at the far post while
Manager Kellan Webb sent Howells away for a shot into the side-netting.
Pentyrch enjoyed strong running down their left, Webb doing well to hook a goal-bound attempt off
the line.
After the visitors had seen a long range lob go wide, they went 2-0 up on 25 minutes as, with the ball
given away again, a foul was committed in the Aber box with the resulting comfortable penalty finish.
On the half-hour Alex Jacklin cleared another away effort off the goal-line.
No further damage before the break but Pentyrch were denied by a Jacklin challenge at the start of
the second 45.
However, lessons had not been learned as another give away saw the guests go 3-0 ahead on 53
minutes.
A glorious rainbow illuminated the ground as Aberdare made it 1-3 on 61 minutes. A Jack Salmon
corner was flicked on for an Oscar Din header into the net.
The use of substitutions saw Aber try to get back in the match, but the result was confirmed on 73
minutes when a cross from the guests' right was sliced into his own net by Jacklin.
Pentyrch later hit the post before making it 5-1 in the last minute of normal time with a drive from
inside the penalty area.
Obviously a bad afternoon for all involved with Aberdare, an important fixture at Llanrumney now
follows on Saturday 24th January at 2.00 p.m.
